Aegean Airlines Gives 5,000 Miles Bonus to New Members
Aegean Airlines’ frequent flyer programme Miles+Bonus is giving away 5,000 award miles as sign-up bonus to newly registered members – enough for a free domestic flight in Greece!
Star Alliance
Aegean Airlines own frequent flyer programme Miles+Bonus is known as one of the easiest Star Alliance programs for beginners in the world of miles and points.
With simple award charts, clear rules, good redemption value and a relatively low threshold for elite status, it is an excellent program for any beginning frequent flyer who wants to make his way to the coveted Star Alliance gold status, which comes with such perks as free business lounge access, a free checked bag and many other advantages.
Welcome bonus
To help you on your way, Aegean Airlines is now giving away 5,000 award miles as welcome bonus if you open a new Miles+Bonus account.
The offer is valid until 01.12.2020 (23:59 EET) through aegeanair.com and the Aegean app. Upon completion of your registration, the new member will get 1,000 welcome miles (award & tier miles) deposited immediately.
An extra 4,000 award miles (thus no tier miles!) will be credited to your account by 15th December.
Miles
With 5,000 miles, you could already redeem them for a ‘free’ domestic flight within Greece. Although the miles cover the payment for the ticket itself, you would still have to pay taxes and surcharges though on an award ticket.
Because of this, it is generally not the best value to redeem miles for a relatively cheap domestic economy class ticket as taxes and charges often make up 50 percent of more of a ticket. However, this may be great value if you plan to travel around Greece in busy times of the year (eg. Easter or the high summer holiday season) when flight prices on popular routes such as Athens to Santorini soar to sky-high levels.
Of course, you could also keep the 5,000 miles and start earning more award miles so you can use them on something more substantial such as a long-haul business class ticket.
One of the great aspects of the Aegean Airlines Miles+Bonus programme is that award miles do not expire as long as your account is active, which makes this especially great for the not-so-frequent flyers compared to other programs where miles do expire (eg. Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles) after a while.
For four years, I used Aegean Airlines Miles+Bonus as my primary frequent flyer account and had nothing but good experiences. It certainly is something I can personally recommend.
In short
New members can now receive 5,000 award miles for free just for registering a new Miles+Bonus account at Aegean Airlines. This is enough miles for a domestic flight within Greece, so even if you do not plan to use Miles+Bonus as your primary Star Alliance frequent flyer programme it could still make sense to sign up.
If you are new to the world of frequent flyer programmes, then the Aegean Miles+Bonus program is one of the better ones around for those uninitiated due to the relatively good redemption rates, ease-of-use and award miles which never expire.

I did register for this promo along with other friends so we could transfer miles together so at least one of us would be getting something for mile pooling… Problèm now is Aegean site says.. NO MILES transfers allowed anymore???
Seems you are indeed right, Alan. Interesting..

I don’t know why Aegean stopped with this. Perhaps they realised there was suddenly an unusual high amount of people registering for new accounts and transferring miles, which was not really what they intended and thus temporarily blocked all miles transfers? Although they should have easily realised that such a thing could happen and then could have prevented it by excluding it in the T&Cs of the welcome bonus promo, something which they didn’t do..
I’m quite curious how long this will last as I can’t imagine it will be permanent.
