Wizz Air

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is set to open its highly anticipated new base in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. With flights set to start next week, fares for the first few flights are now on sale for amazingly low prices.

You can book a return ticket from Bucharest to Abu Dhabi starting at just 129.6 RON (26.80 EUR), while return flights from Budapest are only slightly more expensive at 10,064 HUF (28.50 EUR).

Cheapest flights

The cheapest prices are for departures next week, such as a flight out of Bucharest Otopeni Airport on Wednesday 8th July, returning again on Monday 13th July.

From Budapest, there is a similar outbound flight on Wednesday 8th and a cheap return on Sunday 12th July. Flights on later dates in the summer are only slightly more expensive.

Flights from Budapest to Abu Dhabi are also priced at under 30 euro for a return ticket.

Low fares

These low fares are only available to Wizz Air discount club members. If you are not yet a member of the Wizz Air discount club, you can easily register yourself today for the discount club and still make use of this offer.

You can of course book these flights as well without being a member of the Wizz Air discount club, although you will pay a slightly higher price for each flight.

Included in the fare is a small rucksack only. If you want to take a trolley or larger bag as carry-on luggage on board, or want to check in a bag into the hold of the aircraft, extra charges will apply.

What is the Wizz Air discount club?

The Wizz Air discount club is Wizz Air’s membership programme in which members are given a guaranteed discount on each flight which they book. Membership is valid for one full year after purchasing it.

What are the benefits of the discount club?

Members of the Wizz Air discount club are entitled to a guaranteed discount of 10 EUR discount on each (one-way) flight for all Wizz Air flights costing at least 19.99 EUR. The same discount is included for maximum one travel companion.

If you purchase group membership, the discount applies for up to five people. Wizz Air club members also profit from a 5 EUR discount on checked baggage purchased online.

Corona measures

Note that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi requires people to have proof of a negative corona (COVID-19) test which must have taken place no more than 48 hours before arrival.

Always check for specific corona measures as well with your own government and embassy, and note that restrictions might apply on return as well (if flying from Abu Dhabi back to Romania you will be forced to stay 2 weeks in home isolation or at a government quarantine facility, for example).

Summer

Another disadvantage is that summers are not really the best time to take a holiday in the United Arab Emirates as temperatures are soaring, making it extremely uncomfortable to venture outside in the desert heat.

Although summers are known as the low-season for tourism in the United Arab Emirates, it does also mean that you can score some great deals on luxury hotels this time of the year.

As there are almost no tourists at all in the country due to the corona crisis, room rates are even lower than usually in summers and some real bargains can be found at 5-star hotels.
